GALION — The Shelby Hounds boys 8U boys baseball team won the Galion Little League Stewart Memorial tournament this past weekend. After rallying back from being down, the boys went into extra innings to defeat a talented Ontario team during the championship game.

This was the best baseball the boys have played all season against very tough competition, coach Josh Parsons said. The Hounds played six games over the weekend, putting in 12-hour days.

They started off the weekend against one of the toughest teams in the area, the Galion Orange squad. Shelby fell short in the first game, but got another shot on Sunday. The Shelby boys defeated Galion in their second battle leading them to the championship game against Ontario.

“I am very proud of these boys. I think this weekend of ball helped them all grow as players,” Parsons said. “We went from losing, to winning the rest of our games. This shows tremendous heart and character in all of those boys.

“As I tell them all the time, we win together and lose together. It took every single one of their hits and hard defensive plays to win the tournament. This is a weekend you will never forget and should be very proud of. As a coach and parent, I am extremely proud of all of these boys.”

The Hounds will host the Shelby 8U All-Star tournament. Games will be played Friday July 20 through 22 at Siegfried Fields in Shelby. The following teams will be battling for the championship; Galion, Madison, Lexington, Northmor, New London and Shelby.
