MANSFIELD — Garry and Cathy Dishong were pleasantly surprised to learn that they are this month’s recipient of the Mansfield Beautification Award.

Mayor Tim Theaker presented the couple with the award during Tuesday night’s council meeting, sharing what a great job they’ve done in beautifying their residence at 664 Woodville Rd.

Theaker said the garden club helped with the selection process, ultimately deeming the Dishong’s property as worthy of recognition.

Garry said they just put in a new driveway and that he’s in the process of replanting grass along both sides. They’re also going to get a new back porch installed in the next couple of weeks.

“I figured we were average, maybe just a little bit above,” he said.

Cathy thought it was ironic that they were receiving this award, given that just one month prior they received a letter from the codes and permits department that said they were in violation for not mowing their yard.

She said she thought it was a joke, but it turns out there was a mixup and the letter was meant for another property in the neighborhood.

“We have been there almost 19 years and we do take pride in our corner,” she said.
