GALION — The Galion Historical Society is prepared to take the final step of its Veteran Banner Project called Operation: Honor, Respect, Recognize in uptown Galion.
There were 123 Galion community members registered for banners during several registration nights held by the Galion Historical Society in May.
Partnerships with Photorama Studios, The City of Galion, the Community Foundation for Crawford County, and the American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 provided the funding and manpower needed for a project of this scale.
The City of Galion Line Department is currently starting the process of hanging Veteran Banners on the lamp posts that line Galion’s Harding Way and Historic Uptown District. The goal is to have all 123 banners hung by the July 4th holiday.
The banners will hang uptown until Veteran’s Day in November. Veteran banners will stretch almost a mile from Galion’s Big Four Depot and end just in the vicinity of Orange Street.
The Galion Historical Society will be continuing with the project in 2019 and encourages anyone who wishes to register a Veteran next year to like the Galion Historical Society Facebook page to keep updated on those forthcoming dates.
