MANSFIELD – The Kiwanis Club of Mansfield has announced Ethan Zimmerman, a 2018 Ontario graduate, is the recipient of the Service Leadership Program Scholarship.
The Service Leadership Program Scholarship is awarded to one area senior Key Club member who has volunteered several hours towards bettering the community and plans on upholding the Kiwanis motto of “serving the children of the world” in the future. The recipient receives a one-time gift of $600 to utilize for continuing education at their college or trade school of choice.
Throughout his senior year, Zimmerman has participated in several Key Club sponsored activities such as volunteering at the Pumpkin Glow at the Kingwood Center, the annual Kiwanis Club of Mansfield’s Pancake Breakfast, at the Richland County Animal Shelter and Habitat for Humanity Restore; alongside several hours at his high school for large swim meets and athletic competitions.
“Ethan poses several leadership qualities that made his application stand-out to the scholarship committee. His dedication to community service, leadership within his Key Club, and ambition to assist children in his future career as a criminal defense attorney embodies the ideals of the scholarship,” stated SLP Committee Chair, Jessica Dulle.
Zimmerman currently serves as the Key Club Secretary with Ontario High School. He plans on attending Ohio Northern University this fall to pursue a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, with the intent of going on to law school to become a criminal defense attorney.
The Kiwanis Club of Mansfield via the Service Leadership Program works with area schools and agencies to provide support and mentorship for their K-Kids, Builders Clubs, Key Clubs and Aktion Clubs.
Participating schools and agencies include Ontario High School, Mansfield Senior High, Madison Comprehensive High School, Madison Middle School, Malabar Middle School, and Richland Newhope Industries’ Action Club.
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time.
