MANSFIELD — FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 5413, Stellar Robotics, earned the Judges Award at the World Championship Event in Detroit, Michigan on April 28, 2018.

This award is a special recognition for the team’s community revitalization efforts, honoring their hard work, dedication, and passion for Richland County and the surrounding areas.

Here is what the judges had to say about Stellar:

“This team saw a need to open the minds of youth across their region. The energy they spark within Gen-Z will help breathe life into the manufacturing economy in their area.”

Stellar works toward this goal through programs at the local library, Richland County Fair, summer camps and children’s festivals. The group has created a coloring book for younger children to become more interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math.)

“FIRST has always been about more than robots,” said Gabriella Allen, a four-year member of the team. “It changes lives and gives students from all over the world the opportunity to grow in the power of STEM education. It’s life-changing.”

Over $70 million in scholarships is available to students who participate in FIRST programs–and not only for STEM careers. Students on robotics teams also develop such skills as public speaking, writing, and business administration. Robotics teams are great opportunities for students in website development, computer animation, videography, statistics, and so much more.
