MANSFIELD — One man was transported to the hospital after a shooting at 747 Bowman Street around 2:20 p.m. on Thursday, according to Mansfield Police.
Mansfield Police Chief Ken Coontz stated the unidentified male victim was taken to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. Scanner traffic stated the man suffered a gunshot wound to the upper chest on the right side.
“What we know is preliminary,” Coontz said. “It appears the driver of a black car may have been one of the shooters. A silver car pulled up sometime during or after the shooting.
“Those people are being detained and spoken to at this time.”
Coontz said the driver of the black car, parked in the driveway of the crime scene, ran from police towards the back of the residence towards Hamilton Park. The car was left running, the chief noted.
“We are still trying to identify who was in the black car, and he’s definitely the guy we are trying to locate,” he added.
Mansfield Police searched for numerous shell casings in the front yard while Coontz addressed the media.
“There’s a lot to sort through right now,” Coontz said. “It’s very preliminary.”
