LOUDONVILLE — The Cleo Redd Fisher Museum will welcome Lynne Bury, of the Zimmerman-Bury Octagon House, for the April 16 conclusion of the Spring Speaker Series.
The topic of the night will be “The Perils of Petticoats,” as Bury will delve into the fascinating history of mid-19th century fashion. From hoop skirts to corsets, women’s fashion in the 1800s was a complex array of uncomfortable, and occasionally perilous, clothing.
The Zimmerman-Bury Octagon House was built in 1883, and the unique, eight-sided home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Fit for the period, Bury will be dressed in 19th-century attire and will bring other articles for display following the discussion.
