MANSFIELD – The driver of a pickup truck suffered minor injuries Tuesday afternoon when his truck and a train collided along Piper Road, located off North Main Street in Mansfield.

The black Dodge Ram pickup truck appeared to have failed to stop at the crossing, according Mansfield Police Department Sergeant Paul Lumadue.

The driver was transported for minor injuries to the hospital. There were no passengers.

The truck’s driver’s side was damaged, and a stop and railroad crossing signs were seen lying on the ground nearby.

The train was from Ashland Railway and did not appear to have been derailed as a result of the crash. A spokesperson from Ashland Railway was not immediately available for comment.

Lumadue said the train was slow-moving and carrying mostly empty containers.

MPD and the Mansfield Fire Department responded to the scene.
