MANSFIELD – An Ashland man was killed Friday night after being struck by a vehicle driven by a Galion man on U.S. 30 near Reed Road, according to the Richland County Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 8:38 p.m. when a 2004 silver Saturn Ion was eastbound on US Route 30 and crashed into the median, Lt. A.D. Ivy of the Patrol said in a Saturday morning press release. The driver of the Saturn, Christopher Fowler, 50, of Ashland exited his vehicle and walked onto the eastbound lanes of US Route 30 where he was struck by a 2016 Volvo semi driven by Samuel Spade, 31, of Galion.
Fowler succumbed to his injuries at the scene, Ivy stated. Spade was not injured and was belted at the time of the crash.
Mifflin Township EMS, ODOT and the Richland County Coroner’s office responded to the scene. US Route 30 eastbound lanes were closed approximately two hours while the crash was being investigated.
It is unknown if alcohol and drug usage are a factor in the crash, the Patrol stated. The incident remains under investigation.
