MANSFIELD — Richland Source was searching for a way to showcase Mansfield’s local, original music scene in a unique way.
We would like to think we’ve found it in Newsroom After Hours. The third season will kickoff on May 18 at Idea Works, 40 W. Fourth St.
The opening date will have some relatively big differences we think will be improvements for both the artists and the community. Shows, which are always free, begin at 7 p.m.
Refreshments include food, beer, coffee, and water. We do ask that no alcohol is brought into the concert … it’s free here, so why would you need it, anyway?
Each month, I’m excited to say we have different genres of music. By grouping artists within music genres, we hope to create a better atmosphere for both the audience and the artists.
Another big change is our shows have shifted from Thursdays to Friday nights beginning at 7 p.m., which should allow for more people to attend the events.
May 18: Pop music night with Exhale Desire and Ricky Mitchell and The Yak Pack.
June 15: Folk musicians Pale Criminal and Brady Jacquin.
July 20: Hip Hop show featuring AlliCat and Kid Kulture.
Aug. 17: Rock & Roll night with BirdsCage and Hurricane Ditka.
Sept. 21: Electronic music with Coma Love and Village Druids.
We will close the shows out with a bang on Oct. 19. Pool Boy and The Touch will perform. Halloween costumes are the preferred attire.
The event will be live on Facebook and broadcasted on WRDL Ashland University Radio (88.9 fm).
