MANSFIELD — A Mansfield Senior student was detained Wednesday after discharging pepper spray in a hallway, according the Larry Gibbs, spokesman for the district.

“I don’t know who, and I don’t know why it occurred, but 12 students were indirectly sprayed by pepper spray,” he said.

The Mansfield Police Department said the pepper spraying came as a result of two female students fighting.

Students were treated on the school’s campus and classes have resumed, according to Gibbs.  Mansfield police responded to the incident, which occurred around noon.

Superintendent Brian Garverick sent out an alert to notify parents about the situation.
