MANSFIELD — The Richland County Emergency Management Agency has been awarded $28,782.78 through a FY2015 Homeland Security Special Project Grant, according to director Mike Bailey.

The 100 percent grant is awarded through the State Homeland Security Program. The grant is specific in that it can only be used for the purchase of entry suits. There will be no county money used in the purchase of these suits.

The grant funding will be used exclusively for the purchase of Level A and Level B entry suits for the Regional Hazardous Materials Team. The Regional Hazardous Materials Team is comprised of several members from various fire departments from Richland and Ashland Counties. This team offers services to Richland County, Ashland County and the north central Ohio area.

Hazardous Materials Level A and Level B suits each have a various shelf life.

“Our current entry suits are in need of replacement in order to allow team members to safely enter a hazardous materials contaminated scene and safely mitigate the situation,” Bailey said.
