BUCYRUS (UPDATED AT 12:30 P.M.) – Bucyrus Schools have lifted the internal lockdown that was initiated Monday morning, according to Superintendent of Schools Kevin Kimmel.
“We have lifted the internal lock down at the Bucyrus Elementary School and the Bucyrus Secondary School,” Kimmel stated in a press release at approximately 12:30 p.m. “We received an unsubstantiated threat of violence against the school district and made the decision to do an internal lockdown to ensure the safety and security of all Bucyrus City School District students and staff members.”
Officers from the Bucyrus Police Department were dispatched to both buildings as an additional precautionary measure to ensure student and staff safety, he said. The initial report of a lockdown was released to local media in a press release around noon on Monday.
“We take all threats against our district very seriously and will do everything possible to make sure students are safe and secure when they are in our care.
“Again, the internal lockdown has been lifted and all Bucyrus City School District students and staff members are safe and secure.”
