MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Aviation Club (MAC) has announced it is accepting applications for the 2018 Aviation Scholarship which was established in 2016 “to provide aviation scholarships for others to learn to fly.”

This year’s scholarship will be $1,000 to be used exclusively for flight and/or ground training.

To be eligible for the MAC Aviation Scholarship, applicants must:

 Be a United States citizen

 Live in Richland County or a contiguous county

 Be at least 16 years of age by the application deadline

 Hold a current FAA Student Pilot Certificate at the time of application

Aviation Scholarship applications can be accessed by visiting the Richland County Foundation www.richlandcountyfoundation.org or Mansfield Aviation Club www.mansfieldavclub.com web sites.

Applications are being accepted now through March 31. Throughout its history, the Mansfield Lahm Airport has served the community by being one of the finest general aviation airports in our state.

However, in recent years, as the cost of flying has become more expensive, many who had the dream to become a pilot may have found it beyond their financial means. It is the club[‘s hope that these scholarships will enable some of those individuals in the Richland area the opportunity to fulfill their dream and keep general aviation in the community vibrant into the future.

In keeping with Mansfield’s Airport Day theme “Keep Flying, Born to Fly, Learn to Fly,” the Mansfield Aviation Club will be awarding this year’s Aviation Scholarship during the 2018 Airport Day Celebration.

For those who love aviation and want to support this effort, tax deductible donations can be made to the MAC Aviation Scholarship Fund through the Richland County Foundation web site: www.richlandcountyfoundation.org/funds/mansfield-aviation- club
