MANSFIELD – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal car crash that occurred on US Route 42 at Stewart Road around 4:55 p.m. on Thursday.

Mary Humrichouser, 88, of Polk, was a passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the incident. She was transported to Mansfield Ohio Health and later flown to Grant Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries, the patrol reported.

The crash occurred when a 2005 black GMC Sierra was southbound on US Route 42, failed to stop for the traffic light and collided with a 2005 tan Lexus ES330 that was northbound on Stewart Road, according to the patrol. The impact forced the GMC Sierra off the roadway and into the ditch.

The driver of the GMC was 25-year-old Cody Sesco of Mansfield. He was transported to Mansfield Ohio Health with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Lexus was 61-year-old Jeffery Humrichouser, of Polk. He was transported to Mansfield Ohio Health with non-life threatening injuries. 

Madison Township and Mifflin Township Fire and EMS responded to the scene. US Route 42 remained open with one lane closed and Stewart Road remained open with one lane closed while the crash was being investigated.

It is unknown if alcohol and drug usage are a factor in the crash, the patrol stated. Both occupants in the Lexus were wearing their seatbelts and the driver of the GMC was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation.
