GALION — Galion Middle School students are expected to return to class after 1 p.m. Tuesday after a bomb threat evacuated the building in the morning, Superintendent Jim Grubbs said.

“We have completed the search of the Middle School with the help of a large group of first responders from the Galion City Police Department, Galion Fire Department and Crawford County Sheriff’s Office,” noted a statement from Galion Schools. “After an extensive search, we are confident that the Middle School is safe and secure. However, Middle School students and staff will not be brought back into the building until approximately 1 p.m.”

Bomb-sniffing dogs were dispatched to the scene Tuesday morning. Earlier in the day, students at Galion Middle School had to evacuate because of a bomb threat. Grubbs told parents and family members via a voice message that all students and staff were safe at Galion High School.

“We received a threat this morning that caused us to evacuate the middle school building,” Grubbs said. “The police department is on site investigating the threat.

School officials said the Galion City Police Department and Galion Fire Department are leading the investigation.

“We are working to make sure the Galion Middle School is safe and secure,” said Brian Saterfield, Galion City Police Chief. “I appreciate the assistance of the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies to make sure our building is secure.”

The district is requesting that parents and families of Galion Middle School students remain calm and stay away from the school campus to allow law enforcement to complete their investigation.

“We are working collaboratively with the Galion City Police Department, Galion Fire Department and Crawford County Sheriff’s Office to ensure the Galion Middle School is safe and secure,” Grubbs said. “We take threats to the safety and security of our students and staff very seriously and will work diligently to secure the building.”
