ASHLAND – An Ashland woman died Wednesday after she lost control of her vehicle on an icy road just east of Ashland.

Nicole Myers, 23, of Ashland, was driving west on Ashland County Road 1302 when she lost control of her dark green 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee while negotiating a curve at Township Road 523, according to Sgt. Dan Kumor of the Ashland Post of Ohio Highway Patrol.

Myers’ Jeep veered off the right side of the road and struck a tree, sustaining heavy damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The post was called to the scene around 8:33 a.m. after two passersby saw the aftermath of the crash and stopped, Kumor said. Myers was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, but Kumor said the road conditions appeared to have been the major contributing factor.

“The roadway was icy at the time. It was a light drizzle, freezing rain or sleet type of thing,” he said. “It was icy even when we got here.”

Myers was wearing her seatbelt and neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be contributing factors in the crash, according to the highway patrol.
