MANSFIELD — The National Weather Service in Cleveland issued a wind chill advisory Monday afternoon for northern Ohio, including Ashland, Crawford and Richland counties.
The advisory is in effect until noon on Wednesday.
A wind chill advisory means that cold air and wind combine, creating low wind chills. Frostbite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken.
Cold wind chills can cause frostbite in as little as 30 minutes to exposed skin.
Wind chills are expected to range from 15 to 24 degrees below zero, according to the National Weather Service.
“Arctic air continues to flow into northern Ohio and northwest Pennsylvania,” the National Weather Service states. “The flow of air will begin to shift around to westerly direction and then southwest direction tonight pushing the snow bands up to the lakeshore.
“Eventually, the snow will gradually come to an end in the southwest flow Tuesday.”
Wind chill temperatures are forecasted to improve slightly during the afternoon, but will quickly drop back during the evening.
