The "Not So Normal Paranormal Sisters

MANSFIELD — When Annie Tarpley was 8-years-old, she had her first paranormal experience.

“There was a shadow across that walked across the floor,” she remembered. “I told my mother about it, and she thought maybe it was my dad.”

Tartly said she knew it couldn’t have been her father because he had a wooden leg and a hop in his step as a result.

“The shadow didn’t hop,” she said.

Years later, she and her three sisters traveled the country searching for paranormal activity.

“You could say we have a hunger for it,” laughed sister Mary Beth Behrendsen.

Tarpley, Behrend and a third sister, Amy Gault, were recently featured on the Destination America television channel.

The show, Terror in the Woods, features a moment of the “Not so Normal Paranormal Sisters” living in an old cemetery in Berlin Heights (about an hour from Mansfield).

“We can’t tell you what the name is,” Tarpley said. “Because it’s an old cemetery dating back to to the 1600’s. We don’t want a lot of people in the cemetery.”

According to Behrendsen, the three sisters went walking in the cemetery one night.

“We got scared, which was odd because we rarely feel like that,” She said. “So we left. The next day, where we were last night were tombstones with our names on them.”

Tarpley said Terror in the Woods contacted the sisters and asked them to submit a paranormal story. Tarpley submitted two.

“One of the producers told me ours was his favorite,” she said. “He said he really like the personal aspect of our story.”

Tarpley said the show uses actual footage of the cemetery and shows “undeniable paranormal evidence.”

“The actors also make us look really good,” she said.

The show first debuted, Halloween of this year, but will run again, Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 10 p.m.

The sisters said their episode took nearly a year to shoot.

“We hope everyone watches it,” said Tarpley.

Destination America is apart of the Discovery Channel’s network.
