MANSFIELD — The Mansfield Area YMCA was awarded the Project of the Year by Ohio Concrete. Ohio Concrete is an association of concrete contractors and suppliers in Ohio.

The presentation was made to Cristen Gilbert, President/CEO of the Mansfield Area Y on Oct. 24, 2017 during the Ohio Concrete Fall Engineering Seminar at ODOT headquarters in Columbus.

“This award is designed to recognize and honor owners and designers who have made the investment to select concrete pavement for their project,” said Lisa Weaver-Moon, Promotion Director for the Central/SE region of Ohio Concrete.

The project used 120,000 square-feet of concrete to resurface the 17-year-old parking lot of the Y. Additionally, a 54 x 36 outdoor basketball court (which has been planned for several years) was completed as part of the project. The nomination for the award was submitted by Adam Moritz of Moritz Concrete.

Notably, during the 10-week project at the Mansfield Area Y, the facility remained open and accessible to members and guests for the entire construction period. Amcrete Concrete and Construction, contractors on the project, worked in sections of the parking area to accommodate the parking requirements of visitors to the Y. Moritz Concrete, founded in Mansfield, Ohio in 1950, supplied the concrete for the project.

”It is an honor to receive this award. We appreciate being recognized for the size of this project and for making the choice to use concrete,” Gilbert said. “We know with heavy usage, the parking lot will last much longer than asphalt.”

The Mansfield Area Y is a local non-profit located at 750 Scholl Road, Mansfield, Ohio serving the community for 150 years.
