ONTARIO – The current Ontario law director is the future Ontario law director, too. Andrew Medwid will serve a second term after being re-elected Tuesday, Nov. 7, according to unofficial election results Tuesday night.
Medwid won the election by 68.33 percent over his opponent and Mansfield’s current assistant law director Sharon May.
“Thank you. I worked very hard my first four years to meet my platform and do what I told people in the city I would do,” Medwid said after seeing the results. “For them to reward me, it means the world to me and makes me want to work that much harder.”
A total of 1,421 votes were cast in this election, with 971 votes for Medwid and 450 for May. Early in the night, Medwid took a lead, but he waited patiently until the last vote was counted.
“Until I’ve actually see that number, I’m not going to celebrate,” he said.
The longtime Richland County resident brings nearly 12 years of experience to the position. In 2006, he started his legal career with what’s now Calhoun, Kademenos, & Childress Co., LPA in Mansfield. Four years later, he opened his own practice, Andrew J. Medwid, Attorney at Law, Ltd.
In his role as law director, he says he wants to make progress on the former General Motors site, bringing jobs to the area through that location and other places throughout Ontario.
“My plans are to continue to do what we can to keep making progress on the GM site,” he said. “They need to do what they promised to do five years ago and bring jobs toto the site.”
Representatives from the Adler Group, which promised to create 500 jobs through that property five years ago, will be at the Wednesday, Nov. 15 Ontario City Council meeting.
Medwid also mentioned bringing a wastewater treatment plant to Ontario.
“It’s been a long road, and it hasn’t sunk in yet,” he said. “We’ve basically been doing this, campaigning for about a year now. It’s been a lot of hard work and strain on my family.”
He thanked them and his voters.
“I can’t thank the voters, my family, my friends enough,” Medwid said. “I’m from the area, and for the people who helped raise me to elect me and say I’m the person for the job, it means a lot.”
