GALION – The Galion City School District Board of Education made several changes that will provide long-term stability during its regular meeting Oct. 17.
The board approved a change in the administrative contract for Director of Teaching and Learning, Jennifer Allerding, to increase her number of contract days from 232 to 260. The board also approved a two-year contract with Mrs. Allerding beginning Aug. 1, 2018 through July 31, 2020.
“Jennifer has been a tremendous asset to our district and our staff, and the additional days allow her to continue providing first-class professional development opportunities and break down important data to help our students,” said Superintendent Jim Grubbs. “She serves as a ‘coach’ to our teachers to help them develop new and innovative teaching strategies to engage and challenge our students to reach their maximum potential.”
The board also approved an addendum to the contracts for Superintendent Jim Grubbs and Treasurer Charlene Parkinson. The addendum adds an additional year to each contract that ends July 31, 2020.
“This decision provides consistency and stability in our school district,” said Board President Brian Carson. “We are very fortunate to have Jim and Charlene working for our district, and the Board of Education fully supports their vision for the future of the Galion City School District.”
The board also accepted donations from four organizations, including the Crawford County Cattleman’s Association, the Galion Booster Club, Ontario Wal-Mart and ALDI.
“We are very thankful to have a community that supports our students and staff so generously,” said Grubbs. “These types of donations help enhance all aspects of our students’ educational experience in Galion.”
The board approved all other agenda items as presented. The next regular meeting of the Galion City School District Board of Education will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Galion Middle School Computer Lab Tuesday, Nov. 21.
