It was named Western School in 1911 when it was built, because it was out on the west side of town on Western Avenue.
But one teacher taught there for many years whose memory was so dear to her students and colleagues that they carved her name over the door. She was Rebecca Grubaugh, and today you will find the entrance still says Rebecca Grubaugh School even though the school has long been converted to a residential building.
