MANSFIELD — The Richland County Prosecutor’s Office has filed indictments for 26 people in the Grand Jury’s latest session.

Among those were Miguel Adkins, who was indicted on two counts: one count of domestic violence and one count of endangering children.

Jodie Schumaker, first assistant to the Prosecutor, declined to give too much detail do to the severity of the case, but said there was a minor involved.

“Miquel was indicted … for an incident that happened sometime between the dates of July 22 to July 27, 2017,” Schumaker said. “It was physical abuse.”

Schumaker said she could not comment on any injuries or if the minor went to the hospital.

“This is not flashy,” she said. “But it’s definitely physical abuse and a child should not have to endure it.”

Another indictment showed the Mansfield Police Department finding a man who was carrying a concealed weapon.

On Aug. 3, 2017 Equawn Jefferson was allegedly involved in routine traffic stop. Mansfield Police requested a search on him. Jefferson volunteered he had a gun with him in the car, Schumaker said.

“The gun was fully loaded,” she continued.

Jefferson was indicted on two felonies: carrying a concealed weapon and one count of improperly handing a firearm in a motor vehicle. Each felony could bring 18 years of jail time with a maximum sentence, she said.

“We have requested forfeiture of the gun,” Schumaker said.
