MANSFIELD — Since 1947, Therm-O-Disc has been a been a friend to the community and an employer to many in north central Ohio.
This year the company celebrates 70 years in business and according to a press release from parent company Emerson, it is looking forward to the next 70.
Emerson is a global leader in bringing technology and engineering together to provide innovative solutions for customers. The Therm-O-Disc story, long before it became an Emerson business unit, began in a garage belonging to the Bolesky brothers, John, Russell and Harold.
Spotting an opportunity in a consumer product that was just beginning to catch on, electric blankets, John designed a bimetal disc capable of snapping instantly upon reaching a certain temperature. The future of electric blankets was forever changed as was the lives of the Bolesky brothers.
They sold their contract to produce these bimetal controls to a blanket producer and, recognizing the value of the bimetal disc, started a new company. Therm-O-Disc was incorporated in 1947 and became a part of Emerson Electric, Co, in 1968, the company states.
Today, Therm-O-Disc designs and manufactures sensing and hermetic solutions for customers in HVACR, transportation, consumer products, oil and gas, and power and environment industries.
From Bimetal Controls and Limits to new to the world WirelessHART® Power Meters, Therm-O-Disc products are used in laundry, cooking, dishwashing, refrigeration, food and drink preparation, cleaning, personal care, automotive, off-highway products and industrial environments.
More than 10 Therm-O-Disc products can likely be found in every home in Richland County, the company reports.
Therm-O-Disc also participates in United Way events, Junior Achievement, The Relay for Life, and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer in addition to numerous other activities. The company’s annual charitable contribution efforts result in substantial donations to local schools and organizations.
“Donating our time is about more than making sure Therm-O-Disc is well known in the community, it is about getting out there, helping others and making a difference”, says Sandeep Nair, president of Therm-O-Disc. “We are committed to doing our part to make Richland County a great place to live and work.”
The future looks bright for Therm-O-Disc as it continues to develop innovative products that help customers meet their next big challenge.
