ASHLAND — A Pennsylvania man was killed and an Ashland County man was injured after a crash on Ohio 511 at County Road 1600 at approximately 5:38 a.m. on Monday.
According to a press release from the Ashland Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Arturo F. Garcia, 41, of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, was driving southbound on Ohio 511 in a 2010 Toyota Corolla. Scott A. McCord, 32, of Ashland, was driving westbound on County Road 1600 in a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt.
The report states McCord failed to stop at the posted stop sign on County Road 1600 at the Ohio 511 intersection and struck Garcia’s vehicle on the driver’s door. Garcia’s vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a utility pole. McCord’s vehicle also traveled off the right side of the roadway and came to rest on its right side.
Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the patrol. McCord was transported to University Hospital Samaritan by Ashland Fire Department with non-incapacitating injuries. He was later transferred to University Hospitals Cleveland.
The crash is still under investigation and alcohol or drugs do not appear to be involved, the patrol stated. Traffic on Ohio 511 was detoured for approximately three hours while the scene was cleared. The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Ashland County Coroner’s Office, Ashland Fire Department, and the Ohio Department of Transportation assisted on scene.
