GALION — The Galion City School District Board of Education accepted several large donations during its regular monthly meeting Aug. 15.

The first donation was from the Galion Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). The group donated $20,000 to be used toward permanent improvements at the Primary and Intermediate Schools.

“We are very grateful for our Elementary PTO and the work they do to extend the learning environment for our students,” said Superintendent Jim Grubbs. “The funds donated by the PTO will be used for the benefit of current and future Galion students.”

The second donation came from senior Jeran Pfeifer, a member of Boy Scout Troop 304 in Galion. Pfeifer built eight benches for the High School soccer teams as part of his Eagle Scout project.

“This is just the latest project completed by Boy Scout Troop #304 that benefits the Galion City Schools,” Grubbs said. “Jeran is an outstanding young man, and I wish him all the best during his senior year and his pursuit of earning his Eagle Scout badge.”

Past projects completed by members of Boy Scout #304 have included the Nature Trail behind the Primary School, a bridge to expand the Nature Trail and the benches for the soccer teams, just to name a few.

The board also discussed the bus routes for the 2017-2018 school year. Families with students who ride the bus will be able to access the bus routes during the Open House Aug. 17. Families can also contact their student’s respective school building, or they can call the Transportation Department at 419-468-3432 ext. 12006 for bus route information.

The Board of Education approved all additional agenda items as presented.

The next regular meeting of the Galion City School District Board of Education will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Galion Middle School computer lab Tuesday, Sept. 19.
