MANSFIELD – As a child, going to the fair was an exciting time. It heralds the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year. Fair fries and ice treats. The whirling and humming of the rides.

The Richland County Fairgrounds has seen thousands of families every year enter its gates. The view is a bit different this year at the entrance. The center divide between the incoming and outgoing flows of traffic has a new look. It took several months and the sweat of volunteers, but the old hump of earth has been leveled out and filled with indigenous plants, rocks and a new sign.

“I have been going to the Richland County Fair every season for as long as I can remember. It’s always been one of my favorite local events, ever since I was very young,” said Tyler Flaherty from STARTEK. “When Howard Harriman from the fairgrounds contacted me, I knew that it would be a great opportunity for STARTEK to give back to the community.

“Jeff Patton, site director, and I went to meet with the team, and after we established the plans for the project, the Fairgrounds team went to work and completed the beautification rather quickly.”

STARTEK is a call center located in Mansfield and has been open since 2008. They handle inbound customer service calls for several fortune 500 companies, employing over 600 people in the community.
