MANSFIELD — Professional skateboarder Doug Brown will deliver a motivational message at the Ocie Hill Neighborhood Center on Saturday, July 22 at 2 p.m.

The published author will address topics such as drug and alcohol awareness, bullying/setting goals, suicide prevention, drinking and driving, character development and leadership.

He will also put on a demonstration and will be available for photographs and autographs.

The event, sponsored by Richland Outreach Center and Browning Construction, will be held in the gymnasium from 2 to 4 p.m. and is open to all ages. Admission is free.

Richland Outreach Center’s mission is youth-focused, aiming to reinforce the idea to youngsters that they matter.

“We want to let them know that they’re loved, welcomed and heard,” said Tara Carney of Richland Outreach Center. “With something like this (upcoming event), we want them to know that you might be a rebel as a kid, but when you grow up it doesn’t have to be that way.”

Richland Outreach Center also has what’s called the Kidz ROC program. Open to children ages 8 to 17 years old, Kidz ROC is held the second and fourth Tuesday of every month from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Ocie Hill building.

The program includes a hot dinner, activities and a lesson.

The next one will be Thursday, July 27 with the theme centered on respect
