Galion’s Honorable Kentucky Colonel, Russell J. “Russ” Breinich‘s family (especially his grandchildren) were most important to him and he never missed an event they were involved in.

His family will sorely miss Russ, who passed away at age 75 on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center after a short illness.

Born July 18, 1941 in Bucyrus, he was the son of the late Joseph and Luella (Phillips) Breinich. He married Carole (Rinehart) Breinich on July 7, 1961 and they enjoyed 56 loving years together. 

He was a graduate of Galion High School in 1961 and attended Bluffton College. Russ worked at the former North Electric Company in Galion, Westinghouse in Mansfield, Fleetwood Mobile Homes, Spindrift Boats and retired from Houpt’s Flooring in Upper Sandusky.

He was a member of Galion Elks 1191, Aladdin Shrine, Galion Mason’s Lodge 414, Aladdin Drum and Bugle Corps, NRA and was past president of the 20-30 Club in Galion. Russ enjoyed music by the Gaithers and played steel drums in Ohio campgrounds and area nursing homes. He never met a stranger and enjoyed talking to all.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children Laurie (Russ) Montgomery, of Galion, and Russell J. Breinich II, of Galion; grandchildren Lee (friend Holly Gregg) Cisler, Justin (fiancée Emma Rose) Breinich, Erin (Mark) Waters, Joshua (friend Jessika Clark) Montgomery, Nicolette Breinich and Celeste Breinich; great-grandchildren Elliana Waters, Oakley Maynard, Gracelynn Maynard, Keelie Montgomery and Everson Waters; brother Philip (Carol) Breinich, of Sydney; sister Connie (Robert) Mantkowski, of Venice, Florida; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; sisters-in-law Donna (Murrel) Francis, of Sebring, Florida and Judy (Michael) Kollar, of Galion. 

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 17, 2017 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Greg Weyrich officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Aladdins Shriners Hospital or Ronald McDonald House in care of the funeral home.
