MANSFIELD – An American flag will be raised on Thursday, July 20, 2017 in front of the Richland County courthouse at 6 p.m. to honor three deceased Richland County brothers, George R Loughman, Kitridge L. Loughman and Ross K. Loughman, sons of Ray and Alice (Rickner) Loughman.

George R Loughman was born on 22 Feb 1917. He was a PFC with the U.S. Army serving from July 23, 1942 to Sept. 14, 1945. George retired after 48 years from Westinghouse. He died Jan 25, 2001, and is buried in Mansfield Memorial Park. Surviving are his sons, Terry and Kendal Loughman. His wife Betty is deceased.

Kitridge L Loughman was born April 14, 1918. He was a Corporal with the U.S. Army Air Corp. He served from Dec. 29, 1941 to Oct. 22, 1945. Kitridge retired from General Motors in 1985. He died May 26, 1990, and buried in Mansfield Memorial Park. Surviving are his sons Ray, Michael and John. Wife Marie and daughter Mary Ann are both deceased. 

Ross K Loughman was born Sept. 6, 1919. Ross served in the U.S. Army from Oct 1, 1940 to Sept. 12, 1945 Following his discharge, he became a member of the 179th Air National Guard from June 20, 1948 to June 19, 1951. He retired from Mansfield Tire in 1978 and from Shelby Standard Tube in 1992.

Ross died Dec 11, 2009 and buried in Mansfield Memorial Park. Surviving are his wife Illene, daughters Linda and Alice and son Ross Jr.

The Honored Veteran’s Flag will be flown for 21 days at the Richland County Administration Building after which the Veteran’s name will be engraved on a brass name plate and added to a plaque listing those veteran’s honored in the same manner already displayed on the wall in the foyer of the Richland County Administration Building. 

The Joint Veterans Council of Richland County operates the flag program.
