ASHLAND — A trio of former Ashland University baseball players are impressing their respective organizations/teams in minor-league and independent play so far in 2017.
– Right-handed pitcher Art Warren has been a key reliever for the Class High-A Modesto Nuts in the Seattle Mariners organization. He is 2-1 with two saves and a 4.13 earned-run average in 22 appearances, and has struck out 28 in 32 2/3 innings. This is Warren’s third professional season after being selected in the 23rd round by the Mariners in 2015, and he is 14-3 with two saves and a 3.41 ERA in 55 career outings (20 starts).
In his only season on the mound for the Eagles in 2015 after transferring from Division I Cincinnati, Warren was 5-4 with a 3.88 ERA in 60 1/3 innings over 12 starts in 2015. He allowed 48 hits and 47 walks while striking out 52, and yielded just one home run.
– Right-handed pitcher Brandyn Sittinger has started his 2017 campaign at Class Short Season-A with the Connecticut Tigers in the Detroit Tigers organization. In his two relief appearances, he has thrown two scoreless innings, allowing a hit and striking out three. Sittinger is in his second pro campaign after being chosen by the Tigers in the 17th round in 2016, and is 0-1 with two saves and a 1.59 ERA in 18 pro outings, all in relief.
In 2016, Sittinger had the second-most single-season strikeouts in Ashland history (131), and was 11-0 with a 2.23 earned-run average in 14 appearances (13 starts). He was named to three All-American teams as a junior.
– Infielder/outfielder Lance Myers is in his first pro season with the Alpine Cowboys of the independent Pecos League, and is hitting .355 with 28 runs scored, five doubles, a triple, two home runs and 14 RBIs in 29 games. Myers has seen time at third base, second base, left field and right field for the Cowboys.
Myers was a .345 hitter for the Eagles in 2016, collecting 43 runs, 15 doubles, two home runs and 39 RBIs.
