GALION – The annual Pickle Run Festival will take place over the Fourth of July Weekend in Galion. It’s an event filled with family-friendly activities.
The festival kicks off Saturday, July 1, in Heise Park with Galion YMCA’s triathlon and 5K run.
Punt, Pass and Kick returns at 11 a.m. and is open to boys and girls ages 6 to 15.
At Galion Community Theatre, there will be a Meet the Graders event from 1 to 3 p.m., followed by a movie screening. Kids who show their ticket stub can get into that evening’s Galion Graders baseball game at 7:05 p.m. for free.
A new event this year is the Home Run Derby, which begins at 10 a.m. at the high school baseball field. Other Saturday tournaments include: Sand volleyball, 3-on-3 basketball, and cornhole. Anything Goes will return at 4 p.m.
The day will close with a Galion Graders game, as well as a teen night at the Heise Park pool from 7 to 9 p.m.
Pickle Run continues Sunday, July 2, with the 3rd annual Pickle Run Disc Golf Tournament located at Amann Reservoir. Online registration is currently open at www.discgolfscene.com.
In Heise Park, there will be a Car and Cycle Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A community church service will begin at 10:30 a.m.
There will also be a parade open to all local groups and businesses; applications are due by June 26. The parade begins at 2 p.m. and will proceed down Church Street to Gill Avenue to Heise Park Lane. Kids are welcome to decorate their bicycles and ride them in the parade! Prizes will be awarded for best decorations.
Live music begins at 3 p.m. The lineup includes the Galion Area Band, The Cellar Dwellers, and the Crazy Gringos. The Galion Graders will have another home baseball game beginning at 7:05 p.m.
Inflatables and games will open at 11 a.m. on both days. Food vendors will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on both days. The Fraternal Order of Police is sponsoring a car bash from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on both days.
The weekend will conclude Sunday evening with Galion’s annual fireworks display.
