MANSFIELD – A 17-year-old Shiloh resident was killed in a two-car accident on Ohio 61 that occurred early Thursday morning, according to the Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The accident took place near Dininger Road at 3:19 a.m. when a gray 2009 Chevrolet Silverado driven westbound on Dininger Road by Dylan Patton, 17, of Shiloh, failed to stop at the stop sign at Ohio 61. The pickup was struck by a black 2005 Ford Freestyle SUV driven by 41-year-old April Pickesimer traveling southbound on Ohio 61. The impact forced the SUV off the west side of the road and into a field. The Silverado flipped over, coming to rest in the ditch on the west side of Ohio 61.

Patton was pronounced dead at the scene. A 16-year-old passenger from Shelby was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield with non-life threatening injuries.

Pickesimer was flown to Grant Hospital in Columbus with non-life threatening injuries. Passenger Earl Kirkwood, 51, of New Heaven was transported to OhioHealth Shelby with non-life threatening injuries.

Shelby Police, Plymouth Police, Richland County Sheriff’s Office, Shelby Fire EMS and Plymouth Fire and EMS all assisted at the scene. Ohio 61 was closed for about an hour.

Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
