MANSFIELD — Chris May is the new Director/Fiscal Officer, according to an announcement Friday by the Board of Trustees of the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library (MRCPL).

May, who was previously the library’s deputy director, will assume the position on July 8 after his unanimous hiring earlier this week, the board stated in a press release.

He will be responsible for the MRCPL library system which includes the Main Library in downtown Mansfield and 8 branch locations throughout Richland County: Bellville, Butler, Crestview, Lexington, Lucas, Madison, Ontario, and Plymouth. 

Joseph Palmer is retiring in early July after 25 years as the Library Director/Fiscal Officer.

May joined the MRCPL staff in 2013 as Ontario Branch Manager. He was promoted to Administrator of Branch Services in March, 2014. He has served in his current role as Deputy Director since November of 2014.

His previous library experience includes Head of Adult Services at the Tiffin-Seneca Public Library, Reference Specialist at the Washington-Centerville Public Library and Circulation/Reference Assistant at the Logan County District Library.

May received his Master of Library and Information Science degree from Kent State. He is active in several professional library associations in Ohio, including the Ohio Public Library Information Network, OhioNET, and Ohio Library Council. He is also currently serving locally on the boards of the Rotary Club of Mansfield and the Ontario Growth Association.
