MANSFIELD — The Richland County Sheriff’s Department was involved in a high-speed chase Saturday afternoon that ended in Bucyrus after the fleeing vehicle struck the pursuing cruiser, causing the officer minor injuries.

Captain James Sweat said the chase ended when the operator of the vehicle stopped in a Bucyrus Hospital parking lot following a chase that began along U.S. Route 30 in the Ontario area at 4:15 p.m.

“There was contact,” Sweat said, confirming the officer in pursuit sustained injuries.

There were two people in the vehicle, Sweat said.

“I cannot release any names yet,” he said.
