ASHLAND — For the first time in the 2017 outdoor season, Ashland University’s men’s track and field team is the No. 1-ranked team in NCAA Division II.
In the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) rankings, the Eagle men sit atop them for the first time outdoors since Week 8 of the 2015 season. Ashland has 176.82 computer points, while Chico State (166.56) is No. 2 and Adams State (152.87) is No. 3.
Ashland’s men have compiled four automatic and 22 provisional marks for 2017 nationals, May 25-27 in Bradenton, Fla. They boast the top three men’s hammer throwers in Division II (senior Jordan Crayon No. 1 at 69.87 meters/229-feet-3, junior Daniel Roberts No. 2 at 68.95 meters/226-feet-2 and senior Bryn Campbell No. 3 at 65.38 meters/214-feet-6), the top men’s 400-meter dasher in the country (sophomore Myles Pringle, 45.99 seconds) and the No. 3 men’s high jumper (Pringle, 2.14 meters/7-feet-0¼) and No. 3 men’s shot putter (junior Elijah Talk, 18.97 meters/62-feet-3).
The Ashland men and women will compete in the 2017 GLIAC Outdoor Track And Field Championships on Wednesday-Friday (May 3-5) at Grand Valley State.
