MANSFIELD (UPDATED AT 5 P.M.) — The Mansfield Division of Police has issued an arrest warrant for “Robbery” for 26-year-old Christopher E. McCarthy.

Authorities say McCarthy is wanted in connection with Wednesday’s 10 robbery at Richland Bank, 797 Ashland Road.

“Mr. McCarthy was identified through investigative work which was confirmed by the numerous tips and calls received by the Mansfield Division of Police,” stated a press release from the Mansfield Police Department. “During the course of the investigation, detectives received some information that Mr. McCarthy may now be armed with a firearm.

“We are asking that Christopher McCarthy turn himself in to the nearest law enforcement agency as soon as possible. Anyone who has information on Christopher McCarthy’s current whereabouts, is asked to contact the Mansfield Division of Police, Dispatch center at 419-522-1234 or their local law enforcement agency.”

Other possible contacts include Detective Dave Scheurer at 419-755-9748, Sgt. Mike Napier at 419-755-9761 and/or the Federal Bureau of Investigation at 419-525-2200.

Capt. Shari Robertson said the incident occurred when a white male suspect passed a note to the teller. He then received an undisclosed amount of money and fled northbound on foot.

Robertson said police are not yet sure if a car was involved with the robbery. She described the suspect as 5-foot-6, 140 to 150 pounds.

In addition, police reports state the Travelodge at 90 W. Hanley Road was robbed early Wednesday by an armed man and woman. The owner of the motel was forced on to the floor by the male suspect with a gun. A 42-year-old man walked in and was also forced to the floor.

According to authorities, the couple made off with $600 in cash, a $400 cell phone, a credit card and a debit cards.

Robertson said police do not know if the two incidents are related.

“This is an ongoing investigation that is just a couple of hours old,” Robertson said. “We have no known connection at this time.”

There have been a recent spate of robberies in the community. On March 29, the Mechanics Bank at 980 Ashland Road was robbed. 

According to Maj. Joe Masi with the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect brandished a gun and demanded money at about 5:34 p.m.

The Richland County Major Crimes Unit reported it has identified the bank robber and the getaway driver, April 4. Cody B. Daniels, 25, has been charged with first-degree aggravated robbery, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s office. He is currently being held in the Cuyahoga County Jail on other charges.

Mariah N. Dinya was also charged in connection with that incident. Police believe she drove the getaway vehicle.
