The Sar Shalom Messianic Congregation held a Holocaust Remembrance Service Tuesday, April 25.

MANSFIELD — Amie Mutti said she was inspired to speak at the Sar Shalom Messianic Congregation’s Holocaust Remembrance Service after hearing an anti-Semitic rant.

Amie Mutti was one of several people to speak at the remembrance service Tuesday night at the congregation’s 1650 S. Main St. location.

“After my encounter, I wanted to speak about the importance of being vocal,” she said. “It’s Gentiles (people who are not Jewish) who need to stand up and say something when we hear something like this.”

Mutti said she and her family saw Holocaust survivor Helen Marks speak earlier this month at the Mansfield-Richland County Public Library.

“We were on our way there, and I told my children on the way there, ‘this is really important,'” Mutti said. “They are the last generation that will hear from the lips of a Holocaust survivor.”

Less than 24 hours later, she encountered a man who was ranting about the topic of the Holocaust. This prompted her to approach Rabbi Hallbrook of the Sar Shalom Messianic Congregation, where she is a member. She spoke about the incident at the remembrance service and urged people to stand up when they hear such things.

She and the other speakers, including Rabbi William Hallbrook, city councilman, Cliff Mears, and Amie’s husband, Ben Mutti, addressed a crowd of nearly 80 people.
