Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

On Tuesday, May 2, voters in the Mansfield City School District will decide two renewal levies. These levies will continue to provide the funds necessary to help students achieve but will not raise taxes.

The 10.4-mill and 10.7-mill levies deliver $7.9 million annually, nearly half of the local tax revenue or approximately 13.5 percent of the district’s total income.

Without passage, the district risks falling back into fiscal emergency, which unfortunately occurred when a 10.7-mill renewal levy failed in 2012.

Mansfield City Schools intends to keep moving forward in offering a wide-ranging education for its more than 3,300 students, which includes a STEM elementary school, 10 career pathways for high school students and a Spanish immersion program. Last year’s senior class received more than $2.7 million in postsecondary scholarships.

Investment in your local school district ensures a stronger community and helps prepare its young people for life-long success.
