MANSFIELD — A 22-year-old woman was found dead of apparent gunshot wounds outside the Brookwood Way Apartments on Wednesday night.
Her seven-week-old child was reportedly abducted; however, according to authorities, the infant has since been located and is safe with family members.
According to police reports, Mansfield officers responded to Brookwood Way around 7:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a man with a gun chasing a woman.
The Wooster Daily Record reported that the suspect, 20-year-old Dakota Steagall, committed suicide sometime after 1 a.m. following a standoff at U.S. 30 and Ohio 3 in Wayne County. The Daily Record reported that law enforcement units from the Wooster Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Ontario Police Department, Ohio Highway Patrol, and the United States Marshals Service processing the crime scene in the early hours of Thursday morning.
A press conference will be held today at 2 p.m. when more details on the homicide and abduction will be released.
