Mike Pensinger

His record-setting 12 receptions for 209 yards helped propel his team to 32-0 victory and kept their number one ranking in the AP and UPI polls. His team held on to number one until the final week of the season. They were mysteriously jumped in the polls by number two ranked New Lexington. Mike was a unanimous first team NOL wide receiver and second team All-Ohioan.

Mike was a standout in track as well. He was a four year varsity letter winner. His track records include being the first State Champion in school history (individual or team in any sport). His vault of 14’ 5 ¼” set the record for class AA in the newly formed three class system.

He continued his athletic career at the University of Toledo. He played football for one season, then decided to concentrate on his track career, where he went on to be a four-year letterwinner. While at Toledo, Mike excelled in the decathlon.

He participated in the Ohio State Relays where he placed fourth. He set two event records by vaulting 15 feet and running the 1500 meters in a time of 4:24. One year while his brother Scott, the Galion coach, was deployed to the Middle East, Mike filled in to coach the pole vaulters.
