MANSFIELD — After nearly 30 years Frank Medley still looks forward to his annual Special Wish Music Festival.
The event will be held Feb. 4, at the Liederkrans (1212 Silver Lane) in Mansfield from noon until midnight.
“It’s a great night — great cause,” He said.
The inaugural event was created after a friend’s daughter, and his own daughter’s classmate Brittany Ling passed away due to cancer. She was 16.
Brittany was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 2, Medley said. When she died, he put together the Rock and Blues fest, which held its name for 25 years, he estimated.
“Eventually, Country music became popular, so I had to change the name because people would start to play songs other than rock and blues,” he said.
The event will host bands from noon till midnight, allowing new acts exposure at the start.
“From noon until 1:00 (p.m.) we will have what is called the new talent showcase where new talent will play up to 10 minutes or two songs under professional lights and on the stage,” Medley said.
At 8 p.m., a pie-in-the-face auction will take place where the crowd can auction off a pie and the highest bidder will throw the pie at a face.
“It’s a great cause we only do once a year,” he said. “It’s family-oriented, and all the bands get together for one reason — to support the great cause.”
Tickets are $10, and Medley said all proceeds will be donated to the Special Wish organization.
