MANSFIELD — Police are asking for the public’s help after the year’s first reported shooting in Mansfield left a 24-year-old man with a chest wound.

The Mansfield Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating the incident, which was made known to the police on Monday at around 1:45 a.m. on Florence Ave.

The press release said Corie Patton received medical attention from the Mansfield Fire Department and then was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital. It is unclear what condition Patton was in Monday afternoon.

Detectives are investigating the incident. The press release said “a (white) vehicle was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed; however, it is unclear whether it was involved in the incident.”

Special Operations Captain Shari Robertson said in an email that authorities “are reviewing evidence to determine if this incident may be related to any other crimes that have recently occurred.”

“Without the assistance of those who witness or have knowledge of these violent incidents, finding those responsible takes additional time and possibly may be putting others at risk. I am asking that anyone with information to please contact Major Crimes at the numbers listed in the news release. Thank you,” wrote Robertson.

Those with any information about the incident are encouraged to call detective Ron Packer at 419-755-9725.
