MANSFIELD — Members of the Jared Mansfield Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution participated in Wreaths Across America on Saturday, Dec 17.
The Group helped place a few of the 7,972 wreaths that were placed in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio, to honor veterans buried there.
“We were able to lay a wreath on the grave of one of our own member’s husband to honor and pay our respect to him for his service,” a statement from the DAR noted. “We were all humbled to be able to honor our fallen heroes by placing wreaths on their grave sites.”
Participating were members Joyce Vanatter, Brenda Whittaker and Pat Jennings.
The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children.
Any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible to join. Contact the chapter Registrar at 419-683-3667.
