SHELBY, Ohio — Brock Kehres didn’t let the bright lights bother him this time around.

A senior at Shelby, Kehres tied for 13th at the Division II state tournament last month at Ohio State’s Scarlet Course. Kehres shot a two-day total of 158.

The Richland Source Player of the Year, Kehres qualified for state as a junior. He finished 45th with a two-day 173.

Last year’s experience served Kehres well.

“You’ve got to try to play it like another round of golf,” Kehres said. “Don’t act like it’s the state tournament and don’t let the pressure get to you.”

Kehres was remarkably consistent at the state tournament. He shot back-to-back 40-39—79s.

“I grinded really hard,” Kehres said. “I didn’t do many good things, but I had two scores in the 70s.”

Kehres as the Division II sectional medalist at Sawmill Creek with a 75. He followed that up with a 73 at the district tournament at Red Hawk Run, again claiming medalist honors.
