MANSFIELD — Convicted killers Christen Ramirez and Marcelluis Luckie were sentenced to life in prison without the chance of parole Wednesday, after a 17-day trial.
The eight women and five men jury found Ramirez and Luckie guilty of all the charges Tuesday afternoon, including aggravated robbery and aggravated murder.
They were also sentenced to 36 years in prison for home invasion charges.
Richland County Common Pleas Court Judge Brent Robinson heard from three of the victim’s family members before determining a final sentencing, including Shamille Chatman, girlfriend of the decedent, Myron Webb.
“My baby will never know the touch, the smell, of her daddy. His girls, every single one of them, were all his favorite — his boys, everybody, his nephews, everybody,” Chatman said, fighting back tears.
Richland County Assistant Prosecutor Cliff Murphy echoed the victims’ sentiments.
“The state is asking for the maximum sentences in these cases,” Murphy said, adding a plea for a sentence on the aggravated murder charges to be life in prison without parole.
Luckie said he would appeal the court’s decision, putting down on the record that “you’re sending an innocent man to prison, I just wanted you to know that.”
Luckie thanked the judge for allowing him to visit with his mother earlier in the day and he thanked his family and friends for their support.
Defense attorney Bernie Davis notified the judge that his client, Ramirez, would appeal the decision. When Robinson asked if Ramirez had anything to add, Ramirez declined to comment.
Robinson characterized the crimes committed by Ramirez and Luckie as “horrific.”
“It’s the worst of the worst … the most violent offenses require the most severe sentences,” Robinson said before reading each sentence for each charge.
He said there were many factors that went into the sentencing, including the use of a deadly weapon, a long history of criminal convictions, a high chance of recidivism and the fact that neither of the defendants showed any remorse.
