Dear Editor:

I encourage residents of Ontario Local Schools to support the substitute levy on the Nov. 8 ballot.

This is not a new tax, so residents will not see an increase. It replaces the levy first passed in 1992. Ever since, voters have kindly renewed the levy every five years to help fund basic school operations and supplies, including textbooks, educational materials and support services for children.

If approved, a substitute levy does not need to be renewed. The 4.8-mill measure would generate $1.32 million annually.

I urge residents of Ontario Local Schools to support high-quality education and vote “yes” on the district’s substitute levy on the Nov. 8 ballot.
