ASHLAND — Equine and adventure lovers will not want to miss a fascinating presentation happening at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at the Ashland Public Library. Nancy Strayer, a retired Ohio Department of Natural Resources administrator, will regale us with stories, facts, and photos about touring the Grand Canyon on the back of a mule.

No stranger to adventure, Strayer has completed not one, but two separate mule trips within seven years of each other, the most recent of which was October of last year. She will discuss what it’s like to travel the hair-raising, narrow trails that wind along sheer cliffs down to the bottom of the Canyon, camp in such a unique geological feature, and make the arduous trip back to the top, all the while trusting in a doe-eyed and, hopefully, sure-footed mule to complete the journey safely.

Strayer shared her story with the Holmes County Chapter of the Ohio Horseman’s Council, Inc. at their May 2016 meeting. The Bellville Branch Library (Mansfield/Richland County Public Library) also hosted her talk in April of this year, at which there was a full house. When Strayer is not travelling and sharing her exciting experiences, she can be found at the Bellville Branch Library, where she is employed.
