RIO DE JANEIRO — Continuing his hot streak in the Mens Rugby Sevens tournament, Ashland University grad Carlin Isles scored two tries Thursday against Spain, leading the U.S. team to a ninth-place finish with a 24-12 win.
The two tries in the final match gave Isles a total of six tries for 30 points, making him the leading scorer for the Americans. The former Eagle scored a hat trick Wednesday night in a 24-12 U.S. win over the host Brazil team.
The U.S. team finished 3-2 in the first Rugby Sevens Olympics tournament. Rugby was last played in the Olympics in 1924 with a 15-on-a-side version, as opposed to the faster-paced Rugby Sevens version.
